Purpose: This document explains how to:
- maintain and renew your certification as a Provincial Judge; and
- recertify as a Provincial Judge.
Maintenance & Renewal Requirements:
- It is the responsibility of each Provincial Judge to manage their own accreditation including maintaining and submitting any records required to maintain or renew their accreditation.
- Provincial judges are required to renew their certification every four years, based on the schedule adopted by Archery Canada, by completing the following actions:
- Be a member in-good-standing of Archery Ontario for each consecutive year of the 4-year cycle
- Have a current Criminal Record Check on file with Archery Ontario. CRC and VSC can be obtained in Ontario, online, at the following links: Ontario Provincial Police - Police Record Checks (opp.ca)
- Officiate for three (3) full days every two (2) years, in the role of Judge, Director of Shooting, or Technical Delegate at an AC Registered or Provincially-sanctioned event, from the following list of events:
- 720-rounds or 18m-rounds, registered with Archery Canada
- Archery Ontario Indoor Target Championships
- Archery Ontario Outdoor Target Championships
- Archery Ontario 3D Championships
- Archery Ontario Field Championships
- Ontario Winter Games
- Other events as selected by the Officiating Committee (may include JOP Indoor/Outdoor Championships, AC Nationals, Canada Cup, etc)
Note: Credit is awarded based on a calendar day. For example:
- 2 720s both shot on the same day will count as one day;
- 2 18m both shot on the same day will count as one day;
- a two-day event will count as two days.
- Maintain a record of events officiated and send the record to the Chairperson of the Archery Ontario Judges Committee no later than March 31 of the following year.
- Achieve a minimum grade of 80% on the Provincial Judge Reaccreditation exam in either Year 3 or Year 4 of their 4-year cycle, but no later than December 31 of the end of their 4-year cycle. The exam is open-book.
Upon request, the Judges Committee can consider individual accommodation requests from Provincial Judges living in remote areas of the province who can demonstrate they experience barriers to officiate in the events listed above, due to travel and location.
Re-certification Requirements:
A Provincial Judge who has not maintained their certification by meeting the criteria noted above may not officiate as a Provincial Judge until they have completed the re-certification process.
The Judges Committee may consider and modify alter re-certification requirements on a case-by-case basis.
- Achieve a minimum grade of 80% on the Provincial Judge Reaccreditation The exam is open-book.
- Complete other such requirements as deemed appropriate by the Judging Committee, including: case studies, shadow / train with a mentoring judge, attend judges’ training / seminars, or other similar measures aimed at establishing competence with current rules and practices.
If re-certification is granted, the individual will follow a 4-year renewal cycle, based on the cycle adopted by Archery Canada.
Exemption:
Provincial Judges who are accredited by the following organizations are exempt from the maintenance, renewal and re-certification process, provided they are in good standing with the listed organization:
- Archery Canada – accredited as a National Judge
- World Archery Americas – accredited as a Continental Judge
- World Archery – accredited as an International Judge
- World Archery – accredited as an International Judge Candidate
The Judges Committee may withdraw or suspend Provincial Judge certification if, in the opinion of the majority of the Committee members, the Judge is not fulfilling their duties to the required standard. The Judge will be notified of the reasons for their certification being withdrawn or suspended. The individual may appeal the Judges Committee decision.
