The Canada Games are an inter-provincial and territorial sports festival staged every two years, alternating between Summer and Winter Games.
Since the Canada Games were introduced in 1967, more than 100,000 participants in over 40 sports have been involved as athletes, coaches or officials, and over 75,000 volunteers have dedicated their time to staging the event.
Archery was featured on the Canada Summer Games program from 1977-1997, and was then moved to the Winter Games program and has been featured there since the 2003 Games in Bathurst-Campbellton, NB.
Archery first appeared in the Olympic Games in 1900, was contested again in 1904, 1908 and 1920, and then again, after an absence of 52 years, from 1972 to the present. Canada’s best result at the Olympics came at Montreal 1976 where Lucille Lemay finished fifth in the women’s individual event. The top men’s result was Donald Jackson’s sixth place finish at Munich 1972.
The 2023 Canada Winter Games is a multi-sport event which will be held in Prince Edward Island. Top young archers from each province compete during week one of the games (February 18-26th). The rounds are shot indoors at 18m on vertical 3 spot targets only.
** Archers must be born in 2003 or later, 20 years of age or younger **
