3D archery focuses on shooting at life-size models of game and is popular with hunters. It is most common to see unmarked distances in 3D archery, as the goal is to accurately recreate a hunting environment for competition.

A single round of 3D consists of 40 targets that are usually placed on a course in a forested area. Many of Ontario's great courses use the steep inclines, declines, and valleys of the terrain to make for challenging shots. A single arrow is shot at each target and is scored out of 10. Bonus points are available, making scores over a perfect 400 possible.
